ILSAC GF-1

The ILSAC GF-1 standard indicates the oil meets both API SH and the Energy Conserving II (EC-II) requirements. It was created in 1990 and upgraded in 1992 and became the minimum requirement for oil used in American and Japanese automobiles.

ILSAC GF-2

ILSAC GF-2 replaced GF-1 in 1996. The oil must meet both API SJ and EC-II requirements. The GF-2 standards requires 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 5W-50, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 10W-50 motor oils to meet stringent requirements for phosphorus content, low temperature operation, high temperature deposits and foam control.

ILSAC GF-3

An ILSAC GF-3 an oil must meet both API SL and the EC-II requirements. The GF-3 standard has more stringent parameters regarding long-term effects of the oil on the vehicle emission system, improved fuel economy and improved volatility, deposit control, and viscosity performance. The standard also requires less additive degradation and reduced oil consumption rates over the service life of the oil.

ILSAC GF-4

ILSAC GF-4 is similar to the API SM service category, but it requires an additional sequence VIB Fuel Economy Test (ASTM D6837).

ILSAC GF-5

Introduced in October 2010 for 2011 and older vehicles, designed to provide improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, more stringent sludge control, improved fuel economy, enhanced emission control system compatibility, seal compatibility, and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

ILSAC GF-6

The ILSAC GF-6 specification is currently in development and will probably be divided into two sub-specifications. ILSAC GF-6A will be fully backward compatible with ILSAC GF-5 but would offer better fuel economy, better engine protection, and improved performance while maintaining durability. ILSAC GF-6B would deliver a similar performance as ILSAC GF-5A but will allow lower viscosity oils like xW-16, taking advantage of the fuel economy benefits offered by the new SAE 16 viscosity grade.

Suzuki Swift Generations

Suzuki Swift 5 Doors 2020 (2020, 2021), 8st generation

Suzuki is known as a great maker of small cars, and the Swift was one of the main products to prove that statement. In 2020, the Swift was revived with a facelift. Externally, the design remained almost unchanged, but there were a few details that made the 2021 model look different. For starters, there was a new mesh on the grille instead of the previous horizontal slats. The headlights were slightly modified. Minor changes were made to the rear of the car. Inside, the first changes were to the dashboard. The dials were slightly changed. In the tachometer, the coolant temperature gauge became circular rather than the quarter circle as before, and the same happened to the fuel level gauge inside the speedometer dial. In the 2021 model, the lane-keep assist button was placed on the right side of the steering wheel, in the lower spoke.

Suzuki Swift 5 Doors 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), 7st generation

The Suzuki Swift was the best-known product in the city segment. In the 2017 model, the company didn’t care as much about the budget car. It tried to make the car better and hoped that customers would like it – it’s worth saying that the market has met its expectations. The Swift’s design echoes the proportions of its predecessor, but with rounded lines and even softer edges. At the front, a large mesh grille fills the space between the hood and the lower spoiler. On the sides are headlights with LED daytime running lights, similar in shape to those installed on the third-generation Swift. The automaker tried to make the hatchback look like a three-door car by installing five doors on the sides. Suzuki camouflaged the Swift’s rear door handles in a black area on the C-pillar. Inside, the Japanese automaker kept its promise of offering a spacious cabin for four people. There was plenty of room in the back seat for three, especially if they are children or teenagers. At the front, Suzuki worked hard to offer a much better and more functional design. A silver panel divided the dashboard into two separate areas, with the top side reserved for the ventilation and dashboard, and the bottom side for the storage compartments and center panel. As an option, depending on the trim level, Suzuki offered an infotainment system. Suzuki has removed the 1.3-liter diesel engine from the Swift lineup and left only gasoline or hybrid engines paired to a manual or CVT transmission with front- or all-wheel drive.

Suzuki Swift Sport 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 6st generation

One of the cheapest hot hatchbacks, the Suzuki Swift Sport was released at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, reaching its 3rd generation. The exterior was redesigned with a wider, lower stance, and the little Swift got a more aggressive styling. At the rear, the Swift got a new looking diffuser. The Swift Sport was built on Suzuki’s new platform, which increased overall performance through low weight and high stiffness. The wheelbase has become 20mm longer. Compared to its predecessor, the new Swift’s stiffness has been improved by a factor of 1.4. The rear suspension has been improved for 2017 and provides excellent stability even at high speeds. The new Swift is equipped with Bluetooth, as well as a 7-inch touchscreen display with SD card and 3D navigation map. The Swift Sport was powered by a 1.4-litre, boosted engine that developed 230 Nm of torque. Despite the high output, fuel consumption remained respectable.

Suzuki Swift 5 Doors 2014 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 5st generation

Suzuki introduced the third generation of the Swift in 2010, followed four years later by a facelift for the European version for both the three- and five-door versions. Although the car was not considered “old” by any standards, Suzuki tried to make a few changes to meet future European safety and emissions standards. For example, the facelifted model received LED daytime running lights mounted in the lower part of the bumper and slightly modified headlights. For some, it was almost impossible to tell the difference between the pre- and post-facelift versions from behind. Under the hood, the automaker introduced a turbodiesel engine from Fiat. It was paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, and the result was a very fuel-efficient car. In some markets, Suzuki offered Swift with all-wheel drive system.

Suzuki Swift 5 Doors 2010 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), 4st generation

Suzuki was one of the largest manufacturers of small cars, and the Swift confirmed the automaker’s intentions to own this segment. The short front end of the car with its rounded hood and curved triangular headlights were part of the sporty look. To keep the car’s short shape, the A-pillars didn’t scoot too far to the rear. A straight roof and a sharp drop at the rear completed the look. Unlike its 3-door counterpart, the 5-door version had shorter front doors and a split window on the rear doors. Inside, the Swift featured high-positioned seats that improved leg and knee room for rear passengers. It didn’t feature any fancy options. It offered decent climate control, an infotainment unit on the center console, and a Japanese-style instrument cluster. A small trunk was offered, and there was enough for weekly shopping. The rear folding bench was handy when you needed to haul something more than a sandwich, as the trunk was tiny and the rear seats were upright.

Suzuki Swift 5 Doors 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), 3st generation

Suzuki began a new chapter with the 2005 Swift model, establishing it as a sporty hot hatch in the city segment, although it offered no exciting features in the five-door version. The 2005 model was a big step forward for Suzuki, and it changed the city segment. With its rounded shapes and upright, tilt-back headlights, the Swift stood out from its competitors with its tall greenhouse and tall door panels. Darkened A- and B-pillars gave the impression that the car had a floating roof. The 3.7 m (12.14 ft) length allowed it to be considered a city car, while the 2.4 m (7.8 ft) wheelbase was only 10 cm (4 in) shorter than the Golf MK4. At the rear, the designers installed taillights on the rear quarter-panels that looked like shoulders.

Suzuki Swift 3 Doors 2014 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 5st generation

The 2014 Swift was an updated version of Suzuki’s global second supermini, and it was offered as a three- or five-door hatchback. Exterior changes were minor, including L-shaped daytime running lights in the front bumper. The three-door version featured a more pronounced rising belt line toward the C-pillar. The B-pillar was darkened, giving the illusion of a wraparound window. The automaker installed new taillights at the rear with the same shape and size as the previous version. Inside, the three-door Swift has a new audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and a satellite navigation system available on the options list. Like its non-facelifted version, the 2014 model features bucket seats in the front, set from the floor to make room for rear passengers. Suzuki has improved the technical side by introducing an AWD version for the 3-door hatchback. Another improvement was the new 1.3-liter DDiS unit, which got slightly better fuel economy. All engines were paired to a five-speed manual transmission. The top of the range remained the 1.6-litre Swift Sport.

Unlike its 5-door counterpart, the Suzuki Swift 3-door was offered with a different engine choice. The 3-door version traded in the practicality of a car with doors in the back for a more sporty image. A small trunk was offered, and there was enough for weekly shopping. Under the hood, the 3-door Swift was offered with just two engine options: a 1.2-liter and a 1.6-liter for the Swift Sport. The former was mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the latter to a 6-speed.

Suzuki Swift 3 Doors 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), 3st generation

Suzuki introduced the fourth generation of the Swift at the Paris Auto Show with three- and five-door versions specifically designed for the European market. With its rounded shapes and upright, tilt-back headlights, the Swift stood out from its competitors with its tall greenhouse and tall door panels. Darkened A- and B-pillars gave the impression that the car had a floating roof.
