ILSAC GF-1

The ILSAC GF-1 standard indicates the oil meets both API SH and the Energy Conserving II (EC-II) requirements. It was created in 1990 and upgraded in 1992 and became the minimum requirement for oil used in American and Japanese automobiles.

ILSAC GF-2

ILSAC GF-2 replaced GF-1 in 1996. The oil must meet both API SJ and EC-II requirements. The GF-2 standards requires 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 5W-50, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 10W-50 motor oils to meet stringent requirements for phosphorus content, low temperature operation, high temperature deposits and foam control.

ILSAC GF-3

An ILSAC GF-3 an oil must meet both API SL and the EC-II requirements. The GF-3 standard has more stringent parameters regarding long-term effects of the oil on the vehicle emission system, improved fuel economy and improved volatility, deposit control, and viscosity performance. The standard also requires less additive degradation and reduced oil consumption rates over the service life of the oil.

ILSAC GF-4

ILSAC GF-4 is similar to the API SM service category, but it requires an additional sequence VIB Fuel Economy Test (ASTM D6837).

ILSAC GF-5

Introduced in October 2010 for 2011 and older vehicles, designed to provide improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, more stringent sludge control, improved fuel economy, enhanced emission control system compatibility, seal compatibility, and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

ILSAC GF-6

The ILSAC GF-6 specification is currently in development and will probably be divided into two sub-specifications. ILSAC GF-6A will be fully backward compatible with ILSAC GF-5 but would offer better fuel economy, better engine protection, and improved performance while maintaining durability. ILSAC GF-6B would deliver a similar performance as ILSAC GF-5A but will allow lower viscosity oils like xW-16, taking advantage of the fuel economy benefits offered by the new SAE 16 viscosity grade.

Suzuki Ignis Generations

Suzuki Ignis 2019 (2019, 2020, 2021), 6st generation

At the beginning of 2020, Suzuki unveiled a facelift for the second-generation Ignis. It was designed to improve fuel efficiency thanks to a new powertrain. A new grille with five slats, as well as trapezoidal front and rear aprons, strengthened the car’s strength. Tinted A- and B-pillars were part of these attempts. There was plenty of room in the cabin for four adult passengers, although the rear passengers’ legroom was not up to par. An important part of the update was the instrument panel, done in contrasting black and white, which created a bold impression. The engineering department was busy developing the new K12D Dualjet engine. It features a dual-injection system for quicker response and better fuel economy. The high level of balance is made possible by electric VVT (Variable Valve Timing) and coolant injectors. To further improve fuel efficiency, the existing mild hybrid system powered by a lithium-ion battery has been upgraded with more battery capacity, increased from 3 Ah to 10 Ah. Suzuki offered the Ignis with front- or all-wheel drive, with manual or CVT transmission.

Suzuki Ignis 2016 (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), 5st generation

The Suzuki Ingnis subcompact crossover was designed for busy city streets and was a small city car that offered practicality and style at an affordable price. Despite the Ignis’ modest size, this small car featured a modern and rugged design. At the front, the LED headlights integrated into the grille attracted all the attention. At the back, the Ignis featured uniquely shaped taillights. Inside, the Ingnis got a distinctive and fresh design with a two-tone dashboard and unusually placed door handles. There was a 7-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, and a rearview camera allowed the driver to avoid any obstacles when parking or reversing. The boxy interior provides plenty of headroom, even for the rear passengers. The cargo area is also impressive for a vehicle in this class, offering 267 liters of space, or about 500 liters with the seats down. The rear seats can slide forward and back separately. New for 2017, the SZ5 was equipped with Suzuki’s Allgrip Auto all-wheel drive system, which was first introduced on the Swift.

Suzuki Ignis 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 4st generation

The Suzuki Ignis was one of the first crossovers created by a Japanese automaker. Small, with plenty of ground clearance, the Ignis was unusual for its class and time. The front fascia was characterized by rectangular headlights going into the hood. A noticeable difference from the Subaru Justy was the grille and bumper. Suzuki installed a badge on a horizontal bar above the grille. It placed a different grille and smaller fog lights on the underside of the bumper. A tall greenhouse with a straight roof but a rising beltline were some of the specific design features of the two siblings. Under the hood, Suzuki mounted its inline four-cylinder engines, both diesel and gasoline, depending on the market. The 1.3-liter diesel unit was carried over from GM, which was developed in partnership with Fiat. Suzuki offered the Ignis with front- or all-wheel drive.

Suzuki Ignis Sport 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), 3st generation

In 2003, a three-door cousin of the Ignis Sport was developed. The automaker didn’t even bother to make it more civilized or better equipped than the five-door version. Although it shared its name with the regular Ignis, the three-door version was clearly a different car. Its ground clearance was lower, and the front fascia featured a new bumper with a central lower grille flanked by a pair of small side fairings. The widened wheel arches were continued along the sides with plastic moldings on the doors and rear quarter. Suzuki offered a Sport version exclusively for the three-door Ignis. Inside was the same spartan interior, made of cheap materials. It looked almost like a stripped-down interior with thin door cards, cheap plastic dashboard and flimsy seats. All of this was replaced when the car was dressed up for racing. Under the hood, Suzuki placed a 109 hp 1.5-liter engine. It wasn’t the most powerful four-cylinder engine on the market, but it was a good starting point for a junior racer.

Suzuki Ignis 3 Doors 2000 (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), 2st generation

The first Suzuki Ignis saw the daylight in 2000 when the Japanese company rolled out the five-door hatchback version equipped with multiple engine versions, ranging from 1.3 to 1.5 liter. Although the engines were able to produce between 89 and 110 horsepower, the models built for the export markets had only a 1.3 liter engine which developed 83 horsepower. The first generation of the car had multiple names depending on the manufacturer and on the market area. For instance, in Japan it was sold as Swift SE-Z and as Chevrolet Cruze while in Australia people called it Holden Cruze.

Suzuki Ignis 5 Doors 2000 (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), 1st generation

Suzuki introduced the first generation Ignis in 2000, working together with GM and Subaru. The result exceeded their expectations. Suzuki was known as an excellent maker of small cars. But it lacked the technology to offer a four-wheel drive car. In 2000, the MPV market was still important, and almost no automaker offered crossovers in it. The car’s headlights resembled those of the Suzuki Swift, but were larger and with built-in turn signals at the outer corners, below. Even though the car was offered as a crossover, the bumper was city car style, with round fog lights and a grille at the bottom for engine cooling. Inside, there was plenty of room for four adults thanks to the high roof, but not much leg room in the back if all passengers were over 6 feet (180 cm) tall. With its small trunk, the Ignis was good enough for a city car. The rear split folding seatback could have added a little more room for a longer trip if there were only two passengers on board. The instrument panel had a typical Japanese design with four dials. Fuel level and coolant temperature were on the outer sides, with the speedometer and tachometer occupying the middle. Ignis was offered with a choice of two engines: 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter. The first was mainly used in export markets, and the second – in the domestic market of Japan.
