Volkswagen Polo Sedan 2010 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 2 generation

Small, maneuverable and lightweight, the Polo sedan was an excellent choice for countries where the three-box version was considered more prestigious than hatchbacks. On the outside, the Polo Sedan featured the same front fascia as the rest of the lineup, with angular headlights and a dual-plate grille with chrome inserts. Depending on the package, the bumper with an aerodynamic profile featured a pair of round fog lamps mounted on the outside. In the middle, the automaker installed an additional grille for engine cooling. The three-box version had a third triangular window behind the rear C-pillar and a sloping D-pillar on the sides. Its taillights were mounted only on the rear side panels. Inside, the Polo Sedan offered ample space for four passengers, but with limited legroom for rear-seat passengers. The automaker installed a pair of seats up front designed for comfort, not for vigorous driving. The dashboard design was similar to the sedan version, but with a slightly different dashboard design, especially the tachometer and speedometer. Depending on the market, the Polo Sedan was available with either two gasoline engines or a 1.5-liter turbodiesel..

Volkswagen Polo GTI 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 4 generation

Based on the 7th generation of the regular Polo, the new Polo GTI was a comfortable and refined hot hatch. The GTI version was easily recognized by its distinctive red-accented exterior design, especially at the front. The front grille had a red stripe in the middle, and with optional LED headlights, the red fenders added an aggressive design to the small car. At the rear, the GTI version featured a mesh structure painted black, two chrome exhaust pipes, and GTI lettering on the trunk lid. VW installed only fine and rough-touch materials in the interior, while the overall design is comfortable and sporty. To further emphasize the GTI’s character, bold red stitching was added. The super-comfortable, body-hugging seats looked expensive and were available with both leather and cloth upholstery. Every GTI came standard with a central infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen with standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. With the Performance package, power can be boosted to 220 hp.

Since it is the best supermini German car, it had to have some features to stand out from the crowd. The honeycomb grille and the red stripe at the front demonstrate the car’s sporty character. There are red and chrome GTI badges on the front fenders, like on its big brother, the Golf GTI. Inside, it looks like a scaled-down Golf GTI. The GTI steering wheel, GTI dashboard, and fabric design on the seats are the same as its big brother. The overall look of the dashboard is the same as the other Polo. The infotainment unit is still the same, but a good one, with a fairly large touchscreen and a few buttons. There is room for four people in the rear, and because it has the same MQB platform, it has the same intrusion into the center tunnel. The Polo GTI is available as a three- or five-door, so if someone plans to use it as a family car, that’s fine. The rear seats also have Isofix child seat mounting systems.

The little Polo GTI took aim at the small segment leader, the Renault Clio RS, with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and DSG automatic transmission. Its three-door body matched the car’s performance perfectly. The 2010 Polo GTI had LED headlights with daytime running lights at the front. The bumper was wide and had a large air dam, while the main grille with two slats looked like it was just another box on wheels. At the rear, Volkswagen installed a roof spoiler at the top of the trunk door, and the dual exhaust confirmed the car’s status. Inside, the automaker installed Tartan upholstery that was reminiscent of the original Golf GTI. Volkswagen installed a standard touch-screen infotainment display on the center console called “Composition Touch,” with Bluetooth connectivity and a mirrored screen for cell phones. In the rear, it was the same 60/40 folding bench that increased the trunk size from 204 liters (7.2 cubic feet) to 992 liters (31.1 cubic feet).

Volkswagen Polo GTI 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 1 generation

Along with the updated version of the fourth-generation Polo, the automaker reintroduced the GTI version. It had more power than its predecessor, and it was a pocket rocket that could outrun many cars on the road and still maintain decent fuel consumption. It was like Santa Claus in July. Unless it was unveiled in October at the Australian International Motor Show. The recipe was simple: take the three-door version, put in the biggest engine that could fit in the engine bay, and call it a day. Volkswagen used a three-door version of the Polo hatchback with new, wider headlights. Its front fascia had a large V-shaped black grille with a red stripe on top. The automaker installed two side air intakes in the apron, which housed fog lights and a pair of faux air intakes. Its longer doors and fixed rear windows were carried over from the 3-door Polo, and a small roof spoiler adorned the top of the tailgate at the rear.

Volkswagen Polo BlueGT 2013 (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 1 generation

The 2013 Polo BlueGT was a mixture of a sporty little hot hatch and an economy car. From the outside, the BlueGT version can be recognized by a modified front bumper with a larger air intake. From the side, the standard 17-inch aluminum rims had a specific design. A small roof spoiler was added on top of the trunk door. To achieve a better aerodynamic factor, the car was lowered by 15 mm (0.6 inches) compared to the regular Polo. The most important feature of the BlueGT was under the hood. Volkswagen installed a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine with 140 hp. Such power was not unusual for a turbocharged engine of this size. The innovation was cylinder deactivation. While such a system is almost normal for most V8 engines, it was unusual for a four-cylinder engine. Combined with a smart transmission, it could reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. But when pressed, the four cylinders came back into action in a fraction of a second and accelerated the car to 210 km/h (130 mph).

Volkswagen Polo 3 Doors 2014 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 9 generation

The five-door version of the 2014 Polo received a new front fascia with a Scirocco-inspired headlight design. The new front bumper design showed a wider grille on the apron and a longer lip underneath, which played an interesting role in pedestrian protection more than in aerodynamics. Inside, the entire lineup got a touchscreen infotainment system mounted on the center console. This was a new idea for the small segment where the car was placed. Access for five passengers was easy thanks to the four side doors. Inside, there was decent space even for three passengers in a multi-passenger seat. The reclining seat back was standard.

Volkswagen Polo 3 Doors 2009 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), 8 generation

The fifth-generation Polo was launched at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and was only an inch shorter than the second-generation Volkswagen Golf. By the fifth Polo, Volkswagen had already realized that it had to make it full-scale with all available body versions when it introduced the new generation. It may not have had all the engines or transmissions, but at least it had to show a 3- and 5-door version of the little Polo. It was a significant step forward in terms of design with angular lines and a sporty front fascia. The slanted headlights and wide grille at the bottom of the bumper evoked a sporty feel. The three-door version featured a slightly ascending window line and fixed windows in the rear. Volkswagen felt that the retractable hinged windows were useless for rear passengers, but very annoying for those sitting in the front seats.

Volkswagen Polo 3 Doors 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 7 generation

The 2005 Polo lacked the double round headlights similar to the Lupo in favor of the EOS coupe convertible style. Their exterior was rounded and transitioned to a narrower, more angular interior. For his part, he showed, for the first time in Polo models, turn signals built into the exterior mirrors. The rear side windows were wide and fixed, but most versions were equipped with standard air conditioning.

The 2001 Polo was larger than its predecessor. It was longer even than the first generation of its big brother, the Volkswagen Golf. The increase in size and performance made the smaller Polo a better alternative to other well-known cars in the compact segment. Volkswagen installed a wide range of safety features that were not available even in other Polo segment cars. At the front, the Polo resembled the new, smallest Volkswagen Lupo with four round headlights at the front. The black grille took up an imposing position between them and gave the car a friendly look.

Volkswagen Polo 2021 (2021), 11 generation

Volkswagen upgraded the sixth generation of its Polo small segment in 2021 and improved mostly the car’s interior, but didn’t forget the exterior or drivetrain. The updated sixth-generation Polo, with standard LED headlights, offered a new front fascia. An LED daytime running light strip crossed the front of the car from side to side and improved the car’s appearance. The automaker also installed a new bumper with a more aggressive design on the lower grille. Its taillights were fully LED. As an option, the automaker offered Matix headlights.

Volkswagen Polo 5 Doors 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 10 generation

The sixth generation of this model was introduced in 2017. Among the updates : the headlights on the front fenders were bent back at the angular end, while its predecessor had a straight line at the rear. But the biggest change was the drop of the three-door version. This is unusual since the first 1975 Polo was offered exclusively with 3 doors. Inside, the interior became roomier due to a larger wheelbase of almost 10 cm (4 inches). This improvement gave more leg room for the rear passengers. The length of the car was longer by about the same amount. The dashboard had an improved design with a flat panel with an infotainment display. This part of the dashboard was painted in the car’s body color (available as an option). The center pillar had only deflectors and climate control buttons. A folding rear bench was convenient for carrying three passengers, but not over long distances.

Volkswagen Polo 5 Doors 2014 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 9 generation

A significant update was introduced for the car, with comprehensive technological improvements that include everything from adaptive dampers, a reversing camera, and even LED headlights and much more efficient engines. Speaking of engines, all of them are either new or updated and all are EU6-compliant. A new 1.4-liter TDI engine was introduced with the Polo, with two stages of tune and meant to replace the 1.2 TDI 75 and 1.6 TDI 90. Also brand new for the entire Volkswagen brand is the 1.0 TSI turbo designed for economy.

Volkswagen CrossPolo 2010 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 8 generation

The exterior design stands out with many exclusive highlights and specific details. The front apron is finished in anthracite color and it integrates the front fog lights and a large air inlet with black honeycomb insert. Underneath the air intake, the bumper is finished in with a section in light silver that looks like an underbody protection. Going up, you will find the classic Polo styling for the upper radiator grille with it’s chrome inlay, the VW logo and the dual headlights with standard DRL. The sides and rear-end of the car are also fitted with anthracite finished inserts along the wheel arches, side-skirts and rear apron. The sturdy exterior is matched by a high-end interior, as the CrossPolo is available with two-tone fabric for the seats and door trimming, leather wrapped steering wheel and parking brake handle, aluminum pedal caps and chrome trimming on various switches and components.

Volkswagen Polo 5 Doors 2009 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), 7 generation

The 2009 Polo was a significant step forward in terms of design, with angular lines and a sporty front fascia. The angular headlights and the wide grille at the bottom of the bumper gave a sporty look to even the five-door version. The only idea for the fourth generation was to install a third side window behind the rear doors for better interior lighting and reduced blind spots. Under the hood, Volkswagen installed an unusually wide range of engines paired with 5- or 6-speed manual transmissions. The automaker abandoned automatic transmissions with a torque converter and switched to 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions.

Volkswagen CrossPolo 2006 (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), 6 generation

Back in 2006, when Volkswagen launched the CrossPolo, the company’s main intention was to introduce an advanced model which could attract at least as many praises as its predecessor, Polo Fun. The CrossPolo mostly differs through its higher ground clearance, bigger wheels, and the plastic cladding on the lower of its body. The model was available in five engine versions, producing between 62 and 100 horsepower. Obviously, all the engines installed on the CrossPolo models comply with the EURO 4 emission standards. Of course, despite the off-road looks, the CrossPolo was only offered with a front-wheel-drive system.

Volkswagen updated the fourth generation Polo in 2005 and made important changes both inside and outside the car. By 2004, customers were already focused on the SUV and crossover segment, and Volkswagen tried to get their attention by introducing the Polo Fun. The car’s exterior retained the main body panels from the fourth-generation Polo, with two round headlights at the front and a black grille. Its bumper, on the other hand, was different. It had a different bottom color and an aluminum underbody shield. It was made of plastic, but it protected the engine compartment and gearbox from grass and leaves. The automaker added plastic moldings along with the bodywork on the sides, protecting it from minor scratches. They were more effective in the parking lot than in the woods. Increased clearance Volkswagen tried to hide the plastic pads around the wheel arches. Last but not least, the Polo Fun was equipped with standard roof rails.
