ILSAC GF-1

The ILSAC GF-1 standard indicates the oil meets both API SH and the Energy Conserving II (EC-II) requirements. It was created in 1990 and upgraded in 1992 and became the minimum requirement for oil used in American and Japanese automobiles.

ILSAC GF-2

ILSAC GF-2 replaced GF-1 in 1996. The oil must meet both API SJ and EC-II requirements. The GF-2 standards requires 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 5W-50, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 10W-50 motor oils to meet stringent requirements for phosphorus content, low temperature operation, high temperature deposits and foam control.

ILSAC GF-3

An ILSAC GF-3 an oil must meet both API SL and the EC-II requirements. The GF-3 standard has more stringent parameters regarding long-term effects of the oil on the vehicle emission system, improved fuel economy and improved volatility, deposit control, and viscosity performance. The standard also requires less additive degradation and reduced oil consumption rates over the service life of the oil.

ILSAC GF-4

ILSAC GF-4 is similar to the API SM service category, but it requires an additional sequence VIB Fuel Economy Test (ASTM D6837).

ILSAC GF-5

Introduced in October 2010 for 2011 and older vehicles, designed to provide improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, more stringent sludge control, improved fuel economy, enhanced emission control system compatibility, seal compatibility, and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

ILSAC GF-6

The ILSAC GF-6 specification is currently in development and will probably be divided into two sub-specifications. ILSAC GF-6A will be fully backward compatible with ILSAC GF-5 but would offer better fuel economy, better engine protection, and improved performance while maintaining durability. ILSAC GF-6B would deliver a similar performance as ILSAC GF-5A but will allow lower viscosity oils like xW-16, taking advantage of the fuel economy benefits offered by the new SAE 16 viscosity grade.

The 2006 Pajero featured widening wheel arches and a sloping roof line unusual for a true SUV. A chrome grille with three slats was introduced and larger headlights were fitted. It was offered in both 3-door and 5-door versions. The former was only offered as a 5-seater and the latter as a 7-seater. The spare tire was left on the rear tailgate. Inside, the Pajero featured a new dashboard with a large instrument cluster. The center console had an infotainment unit and an optional LCD for the trip computer. The middle row had enough room for three adults and limited space for a third passenger.

Mitsubishi Pajero 5 Doors 2004 (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 6st generation

The Pajero was offered as the Montero, depending on the market in which it was offered. Inside, the Pajero / Montero Sport featured plastic wood trim, a plastic dashboard and interior door panels. The center console was also made of plastic. Despite the long cab, it was only available as a 5-seater. Rear seat passengers did not have too much leg room, but that was true even for those who were above average. As for the engine, the most common unit under the hood was a 2.5-liter turbodiesel mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission. Nearby was a short-range stick. Unlike its big brother, the Pajero / Montero / Shogun SUV, it didn’t have a smart traction system with three differentials. It was equipped with a classic 4×4 on-demand system with rear or all-wheel drive without an inter-axle differential. But at least it was equipped with a limited slip differential. An automatic version was also available, and in some markets, a 3.0-liter V6 engine.

Mitsubishi Pajero 5 Doors 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), 5st generation

Aimed at dethroning the Land Rover Discovery and stopping Toyota Land Cruiser’s rapid expansion, the 2003 model offered as many free extra options as the base price tag would allow it. following the introduction of the new 3.8 L V6 unit, Mitsubishi has also made other under-bonnet adjustments: the 3.0 L saw a power output decrease while the 3.5 L plant received a horse power boost, reaching a top 217 thanks to having been equipped with a gasoline direct injection system.

After two generations built on a staircase chassis, the third generation came with a whole new approach. The automaker noticed that most customers were using their Pajero/Montero on paved streets, and asked for comfort. Thus, the 2000 model was received with block construction and independent suspension in all corners. In addition, the automaker added the most advanced 4×4 system on the market with three differentials and the ability to drive with only rear-wheel drive. The rounded shapes of the third generation have replaced the square shapes of its predecessor. It also grew in size to accommodate a roomier interior. Its widened arches in the front and rear were inspired by sumo wrestlers, but the headlights remained rectangular. Mitsubishi installed a seven-seat saloon in a 2-3-2 configuration. The last row of seats was either folding or removable, and the second row was reclining. Only the front seats were standard and fixed. The dashboard was tall, with a distinct center glass, on which the automaker placed the audio system and climate control, as well as a small LCD for the on-board computer.

The widening wheel arches and sloping roof line were unusual for a true SUV. Its widened wheel arches created the muscular look of a Japanese SUV. In its three-door form, the rear side windows had an ascending lower border between the middle and rear pillars. Like its predecessors, the fourth-generation Pajero retained a spare tire on the tailgate with side hinges. Inside, the Pajero featured a new dashboard with a large instrument cluster. The center console had an infotainment unit and optional LCD for the trip computer. At the front Mitsubishi offered enough space for two passengers, but at the back there was not enough space even for two passengers. It was the tech pad that drew attention to the Pajero. It was the only 4×4 on-demand vehicle in the world that could be used as an all-wheel drive vehicle because it was equipped with three differentials. The center and rear could be locked for better traction. For the engine bay, the manufacturer installed either a 3.2-liter turbocharged diesel or a 3.8-liter gasoline engine. Both versions were paired as standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, and a 5-speed automatic transmission was available as an option.

Mitsubishi Pajero 3 Doors 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), 4st generation

Mitsubishi attempted to revive its Pajero / Montero lineup in 2003, slightly updating both three- and five-door versions. Unlike most other SUVs on the market, Mitsubishi’s off-road flagship featured an integrated chassis design that, but not too much, reduced the car’s weight. The updated lineup improved both the exterior and the technical side. But Mitsubishi didn’t reduce engine size, and that was expensive for them. In Europe, anything matching the 3.0-liter displacement was heavily taxed, and the Pajero only had larger-than-those gasoline or turbo-diesel units. On the outside, the Japanese automaker changed the shape of the front bumper. It dropped the square fog lights and introduced a set of smaller round ones under the headlights. In addition, it now has body-colored bumpers and side protection moldings, which have greatly improved the overall appearance of the vehicle. The Pajero / Montero featured a retractable rear passenger window and a shorter wheelbase in the three-door version.

Mitsubishi Pajero 3 Doors 2000 (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), 3st generation

Visually invigorated and surprising through equipment levels, the 3-door Pajero was now better looking and safer. With an emphasis on its second attribute, the Pajero had been developed using a unibody construction which led to a much impact-resistant vehicle and a well deserved good EuroNCAP safety rating. The all wheel drive SS4 system was also upgraded, allowing for 50/50 torque distribution.

Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin 2001 (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), 2st generation

Since Japanese design didn’t always suit European tastes, Mitsubishi hired Pininfarina to create the car and even named it the Pajero Pinin. It was supposed to look like a cool SUV, but its size didn’t help it. Its upright side panels were good for track driving, but didn’t look good for street transport. Its square headlights resembled those fitted to the Pajero. The steep windshield and upright side windows formed a square greenhouse. At least there was a third window behind the rear doors. To emphasize the off-road look of the car, Mitsubishi installed a spare tire on the rear door with side hinges. The interior didn’t look like the Pininfarina did. The square design with flat panels was similar to that of other SUVs built by Mitsubishi. Because the car was narrow, there was limited hip and shoulder room in the back for three adults, and despite the increased wheelbase compared to the three-door version, there was still not enough leg room for adults.
