Approvals ILSAC Motor Oil

ILSAC GF-1

The ILSAC GF-1 standard indicates the oil meets both API SH and the Energy Conserving II (EC-II) requirements. It was created in 1990 and upgraded in 1992 and became the minimum requirement for oil used in American and Japanese automobiles.

ILSAC GF-2

ILSAC GF-2 replaced GF-1 in 1996. The oil must meet both API SJ and EC-II requirements. The GF-2 standards requires 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 5W-50, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 10W-50 motor oils to meet stringent requirements for phosphorus content, low temperature operation, high temperature deposits and foam control.

ILSAC GF-3

An ILSAC GF-3 an oil must meet both API SL and the EC-II requirements. The GF-3 standard has more stringent parameters regarding long-term effects of the oil on the vehicle emission system, improved fuel economy and improved volatility, deposit control, and viscosity performance. The standard also requires less additive degradation and reduced oil consumption rates over the service life of the oil.

ILSAC GF-4

ILSAC GF-4 is similar to the API SM service category, but it requires an additional sequence VIB Fuel Economy Test (ASTM D6837).

ILSAC GF-5

Introduced in October 2010 for 2011 and older vehicles, designed to provide improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, more stringent sludge control, improved fuel economy, enhanced emission control system compatibility, seal compatibility, and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

ILSAC GF-6

The ILSAC GF-6 specification is currently in development and will probably be divided into two sub-specifications. ILSAC GF-6A will be fully backward compatible with ILSAC GF-5 but would offer better fuel economy, better engine protection, and improved performance while maintaining durability. ILSAC GF-6B would deliver a similar performance as ILSAC GF-5A but will allow lower viscosity oils like xW-16, taking advantage of the fuel economy benefits offered by the new SAE 16 viscosity grade.

Mazda Tribute Generations

Mazda Tribute 2008 (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), 3 generation

The 2009 model year Mazda Tribute received the same changes as the similar models built on Ford’s CD2 platform, namely the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner. After just one year from the launch of its second generation, the Mazda Tribute received a new 2.5l L4 petrol unit replacing the old 2.3l one, and a 6-speed automated transmission replacing the 4-speed automated one. Other changes include revised suspension setup, larger front and rear stabilizer bars, improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. At the interior, the seats were redesigned and for the exterior, daytime running lights were integrated into the front bumper.

Mazda Tribute 2007 (2007, 2008), 2 generation

The Tribute had the appearance of a truck. The wide V-shaped grille with a chrome bar on top and the almost flat hood were part of the off-road design school. The rake rack behind the rear doors was reminiscent of those fitted to conventional sedans. The interior featured high-quality materials and a car-like dashboard with two round dials. With a floor-mounted gearshift lever and a center pillar that housed the CD radio and climate control unit, the Tribute was aimed at sedan and SUV users alike. The rear bench folded completely flat, with no headrests. For the engine bay, Mazda introduced some of its well-known 2 or 2.3-liter engines. A 3.0-liter V6 was available. A hybrid with a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine coupled to an electric motor was announced as the most economical version.

Mazda Tribute 2001 (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), 1 generation

Available in three configurations, the Tribute came with front- or all-wheel drive. The base DX model was equipped with a rather weak 130-horsepower engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. A more powerful 200 hp V6 engine could be selected for an additional charge. As the only option, the V6 unit came with a 4-speed automatic transmission. In the mid-level LX trim level, the Tribute was equipped with upgraded cloth upholstery, cruise control, fog lights, cargo cover and a split-folding rear seat. The top-of-the-line ES version added leather upholstery and a power driver’s seat.
