Kia Morning Generations

Kia Morning 5 doors 2020 (2020, 2021), 8 generation

Based on the same platform as the Hyundai i10, the little Morning (Picanto) received an update for 2020. Because of stricter Euro 6d regulations that required more safety systems in addition to emissions values, the smallest pony in Kia’s stable meets the market with more features and a restyled look. The Russelsheim design studio improved the appearance of the small car. The front fascia of the Morning (Picanto) GT-Line and X-Line models has been redesigned to give each car a more purposeful design. It all started with the “tiger nose” grille, which featured a new textured trim and open link. The chrome-effect frame formed a wide shape that transitioned to the bottom of the redesigned headlights, giving the car a broader look.

Kia Morning 5 doors 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 7 generation

Kia unveiled the third generation of its smallest car, the Morning (Picanto), at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Inside, the longer wheelbase was translated into a more spacious cabin, especially for rear-seat passengers. Its dashboard featured a floating infotainment unit above the center console with two round knobs and a few extra buttons. Kia didn’t skimp on angles and offered the Morning (Picanto) better features than most small-segment cars, including buttons on the steering wheel, automatic climate control and an LCD display in the instrument cluster between the tachometer and speedometer. Under the hood, the automaker has installed a choice of three gasoline engines ranging from 67 to 100 hp.

Kia Morning 5 doors 2015 (2015, 2016, 2017), 6 generation

The second-generation Kia Morning (Picanto) underwent a facelift in 2015 and was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It was available in 3-door and 5-door configurations, and it was redesigned with new headlights accompanied by new front and rear bumpers.

Kia Morning 3 doors 2015 (2015, 2016, 2017), 5 generation

Kia offered the smallest member of its family, the Morning (Picanto), in two versions: a three- or five-door, a car designed for city traffic and tight parking spaces. In 2015, the Morning (Picanto) was updated to comply with the new Euro6 regulations. The three-door version had the same front fascia as its 5-door counterpart. Longer front doors were needed on the sides to make it easier to access the rear seats. To give the car a sportier look, the design department installed a coupe-shaped rear window, which led to a very wide rear pillar at the bottom. An exclusive range of 14-inch alloy wheels was available for the Morning (Picanto) 3-door. Under the hood, the 2015 Morning (Picanto) had a choice of two engines with an intelligent Start-Stop system. Both were paired as standard with a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the 1.2-liter version was also available with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Kia Morning 5 doors 2011 (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), 4 generation

As Kia’s smallest car for the global market, the Morning (Picanto) plays the role of the city car in their European lineup, though it’s also known as the Morning (Picanto) or K1 in Korea and some parts of Asia. Designed to appeal to a younger generation of buyers, the second generation model launched in 2011 is much better designed than its predecessor. The car was drawn by none other than Peter Schreyer, featuring elongated headlights and the now famous tiger-nose grille. It’s based on the same platform as the Hyundai i10 and comes with 1-liter L3 or 1.25-liter L4 engines, the larger being available with a 4-speed automatic gearbox as well.

Kia Morning 3 doors 2011 (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), 3 generation

The smallest and cheapest car in Kia’s European model range is the Picanto 3-door. This is available in three trim levels: Base, Classic and Comfort, also called 1, 2 and 3 in Britain. The advantages of the 3-door are that it costs a little bit less to buy in the first place, which makes it popular with buyers who only want to use the Picanto for their daily commute. The 3-door version is the same length as the 5-door model, but it sports new windows and doors and other small cosmetic changes that make it look sporty. In January 2013, the Morning (Picanto) was named most reliable car in the UK and the car is also relatively safe with a 4-star rating from Euro NCAP.

Kia Morning 2007 (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), 2 generation

The KIA Morning (Picanto), while not a spicy car, was small and could squeeze through city traffic. It took advantage of automotive expertise in making small cars for the Korean market, and the result was a car suitable for use in traffic jams. Regardless of the quality of the car, the design was far from appealing to buyers from Europe or the United States. The updated version tried to correct some mistakes, and the car had different headlights shifted back toward the top of the front fenders. It retained the same square styling with rounded edges and a rising line on the rear doors. At the rear, the design team updated the taillights and gave them an unmistakable look, improving visibility from behind the car. Under the hood, Kia squeezed in a choice of two engines: a 1.0-liter and a 1.1-liter. The automaker added a 1.1-liter turbodiesel engine for some markets, but it was deemed useless, so it didn’t offer as much fuel efficiency as expected.

Kia Morning 2004 (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), 1 generation

It is sold worldwide under various names but it is only available with a 1.0 and a 1.1 liter petrol engine and a 3 cylinder diesel based on Kia Cerato’s design. It has direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger. For European markets, the car was sold with a deal of features in order to make it more attractive to buyers. These included MP3 player, air conditioning, power windows on the front and rear, power windows and central locking.
