Dodge Nitro Generations

Dodge Nitro 2011 (2011), 5rd generation

The Dodge Nitro is a truck-based SUV. Technically, it combines aspects of the one-piece construction and body-on-frame design that Dodge calls uniframe, but has the strength and weight of a truck-based platform. It also has partial all-wheel drive and a pretty solid chassis/suspension. You can tow a lot with the Nitro, and you’ll have better off-road capability than many other SUVs, but you’ll lose fuel economy and a comfortable ride.

Dodge Nitro 2010 (2010), 4rd generation

The Nitro is one of the few small SUVs available that can comfortably carry four people, tow large loads, and go off-road. The Nitro comes with a choice of two engines. Our test model was equipped with a 210-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a 4.0-liter V-6 with 260 horsepower paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Dodge Nitro 2009 (2009), 3rd generation

The Dodge Nitro has evolved to thrive in a changing environment because its reps offer more mileage and are generally more space efficient. This SUV has higher ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and a cargo hatch rather than a trunk.

Dodge Nitro 2008 (2008), 2rd generation

The Nitro’s square shape is accentuated by giant front and rear fender extensions and a short greenhouse. The almost vertical grille is silver on the SXT and SLT overlays, but the grille crosshair is body-colored on the R/T models. The five-seat Nitro is great for straight-line driving thanks to the gem of an engine in the available 4.0-liter V-6, but it suffers from handling and handling like a truck, which has no place in an SUV designed for roading.

Dodge Nitro 2007 (2007), 1rd generation

Dodge was a small player in the SUV market and was the epitome of all things tough in the automotive world. With the launch of the all-new 2007 Nitro, Dodge looks poised to make up for lost time with a heavy-duty SUV if ever there was one. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are available, and two all-wheel drive systems are also offered. The part-time system should only be activated when driving on slippery surfaces (rear-wheel drive is used under normal driving conditions), but the constant-time system includes an inter-axle differential and works without driver intervention. None of the systems have a low range that prevents the Nitro from going off-road. All disc anti-lock brakes are standard. The brakes stop the Nitro without incident and are fairly straightforward, but the pedal itself produces a dull, soft feel.
