Dodge Challenger 2021 (2021), 14rd generation

The big news for 2021 is a new SRT Super Stock model, which packs 807 hp from a specially tuned version of the car’s available supercharged V-8. The Super Stock also includes Bilstein adaptive shocks, Brembo performance brakes, 11-inch-wide wheels and street-legal drag radial tires. It adds up to what Dodge claims is the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car, with a 0-60 time of 3.25 seconds and an elapsed time of 10.5 seconds in the quarter-mile. Widebody Package availability has been extended to R/T Scat Pack Shaker and T/A 392 trims, with fender flares to accommodate wider wheels and tires. Other changes for 2021 include 20-inch wheels on GT trims with AWD, SRT-branded Brembo brakes on the SRT Hellcat and Redeye and an available memory feature for the driver’s seat, steering column, side mirrors and radio presets.

Dodge Challenger 2020 (2020), 13rd generation

Challengers with leather get a stitched dashboard and upper door panels, while V-8 models can have carbon fiber accents and a simulated-suede headliner. Updated wheels are available across the coupe’s range of trims.

Dodge Challenger 2019 (2019), 12rd generation

A new SRT Hellcat Redeye model debuts with a 797-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that’s related to the engine in the drag-strip-focused SRT Demon model. Dodge claims a 203-mph top speed, a 10.8-second quarter-mile and a 3.4-second zero-to-60-mph time for the Redeye. The SRT Hellcat’s output is up 10 hp to 717 and features a new dual-snorkel hood. SRT Hellcat and R/T Scat Pack versions get an updated Launch Control system as well as Line Lock and Launch Assist features.

Dodge Challenger 2018 (2018), 11rd generation

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has had extensive exterior changes, starting with the world’s largest functional bucket on the passenger car hood. The Air-Grabber hood fits tightly over the air box and combines with additional air from the Air-Catcher headlight intake and a third air intake near the fender to allow the Demon V-8 to draw down 1,150 cubic feet of air per minute. This is the highest air intake of any engine in the world and 18 percent higher than the Hellcat engine.

The 2017 Dodge Challenger GT was equipped with the all-wheel-drive system available in the Charger sedan (the Challenger is mounted on a shortened Charger chassis), combined with a sturdy 3.6-liter V-6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The notable additions for 2016 are the new Plum Crazy exterior color and the Blacktop Appearance Package for SXT and R/T trim levels.

Dodge Challenger 2015 (2015), 8rd generation

The 2015 Challenger gets only minor exterior changes. New headlights with LED ring-reliefs, a new grille, bumper and hood, new LED taillights, and some new wheel designs are the extent of the exterior changes.

Dodge Challenger 2014 (2014), 7rd generation

For 2014, Chrysler has expanded the availability of certain features. Every Challenger can now be equipped with performance suspension and brakes as well as 20-inch aluminum wheels. Also new is an option package for entry-level Challengers and SXT models called the Super Sport Group. It includes 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, a peppier 3.07 axle ratio, a rear spoiler, performance suspension and brakes, and a quicker steering ratio. A Super Sport Group includes zinc steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles and a Sport Mode that changes the automatic transmission’s shift timing for best response. This package can also be had in Sinister Super Sport guise: the only difference is black-painted wheels.

Dodge Challenger 2013 (2013), 6rd generation

The standard 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine is smooth and refined, but it doesn’t have a lot of grunt from a standing start. It comes alive at midrange engine speeds, which leads to more eager acceleration, but it lacks the SRT8 V-8’s appealing exhaust burble that goes so well with the Challenger’s whole outlook. The V-6 gets an EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway.

Dodge Challenger 2012 (2012), 5rd generation

The Challenger is a tribute to the original coupe that was produced in the early 1970s. It takes many of the original’s designs – slits in the hood, rectangular grille, and pronounced rear overhangs – and puts them into a modern form. To Dodge’s credit, the result is a coupe that both recalls the past and looks modern. The transmission is responsive, shifting quickly to downshift or fully downshift when the gas pedal is depressed. The steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, which are new for 2012, allow you to control gear shifting.

Dodge Challenger 2011 (2011), 4rd generation

The Challenger gets a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 as its new base engine, and the performance-oriented SRT8 392 is powered by a new 470-hp, 6.4-liter V-8. New standard equipment for 2011 includes Keyless Go remote start, automatic air conditioning, side-impact airbags and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Even though the Challenger looks like it came out of the 1970s, beneath that classic sheetmetal hides a thoroughly modern car – surprisingly comfortable and quiet. The power driver’s seat comes standard. The places where you come in contact with the Challenger’s cabin – the steering wheel, gear selector, and leather seats – give the impression of being complete, but the dashboard and instrument cluster are pretty straightforward.

The Challenger looks imposing in every trim level, and all trim levels share the same basic style. Its overall driving characteristics are superb, with 17-inch alloy wheels, body-colored moldings and faux scoops on the hood.
