Chrysler Sebring Generations

Chrysler Sebring 2010 (2010), 16st generation

The Chrysler Sebring has an attractive appearance. It’s a sleek, beautifully designed car, an American specimen with hints of European aristocracy, most likely the result of a recent, now failed, car development collaboration with Germany’s Mercedes-Benz.

Chrysler Sebring 2009 (2009), 15st generation

2009 Chrysler Sebring Although the Sebring hasn’t been updated this year, it still looks current. The Sebring has a four-cylinder engine and is relatively fuel efficient at 21/30 miles per gallon city/highway. The turtle-type steering wheel looks fancy and has a lot of foxtail potential. The top third of the steering wheel was covered in tortoise-type hard plastic. More tortoiseshell style accents on the dashboard and doors. It looks nice at first, but the color in it is too orange and ends up looking a little cheap.

Chrysler Sebring 2008 (2008), 14st generation

The Sebring convertible is available in Base, Universal and Limited trim levels. Base and Touring models have a standard black vinyl top, while Limited gets a cloth top. The optional retractable hardtop costs about $2,000 and is available on Touring and Limited models. All tops are power-operated and automatically lock onto the top of the windshield frame when raised. The top is controlled by a switch on the dash and on remote start models by a key fob. All tops fold under the trunk lid in the same way. The Sebring added about 400 pounds when transformed into a convertible. More metal was added to strengthen the chassis, which no longer has the benefit of a fixed roof to give the car rigidity.

Chrysler Sebring 2007 (2007), 13st generation

The completely redesigned 2007 Sebring midsize sedan has taken the unenviable place as Chrysler’s first all-new car since the full-size 300 sedan, an unbridled success that is credited with seeking to turn around Chrysler’s rapid fortunes. Breakthrough models like the 300 don’t come around very often, and consistent hits are even rarer. From the hood to the rear, the Sebring has many different design elements. There is a strong crease on the side doors and an arc-shaped C-pillar that transitions to a short rear end. The base Sebrings have standard 16-inch steel wheels and hubcaps, while the mid-range Touring and top-of-the-line Limited have 17-inch aluminum wheels. Aluminum or chrome-plated 18-inch wheels are optional.

Chrysler Sebring 2006 (2006), 12st generation

Chrysler dropped the Sebring coupe for 2006, but kept the mid-size Sebring sedan and convertible. The Sebring is only available with automatic transmission. Dodge offers a similar Stratus sedan, but without the convertible. New packages available for the 2006 sedan are the Leather Value Package, the Chrome Value Package, and the Protection Value Package, which includes all disc anti-lock brakes, low-speed traction control, and curtain-type side airbags. Convertibles are available in Base, Sport GTC, Touring and Limited for 2006. Sirius satellite radio is a new option, and navigation radio with a six-band CD player is also available.

Chrysler Sebring 2005 (2005), 11st generation

2005 Chrysler Sebring is a rare year-round convertible. It has a slim, elegant appearance and a tight but comfortable rear seat in attractive fabric with faux suede inserts. Standard features include air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and audio controls on the steering wheel.

Chrysler Sebring 2004 (2004), 10st generation

Chrysler put some fresh touches and duplicated the cosmetically altered Sebrings ’04 models. In addition, the sedan offers new 16-inch painted aluminum wheels for the LX and LXi models and new chrome-plated aluminum wheels as an option for the LXi. The LX and LXi sedans also have a Chrysler wing-shaped badge on the deck lid, replacing the old “Chrysler” badge. Inside, the sedan offers some new amenities, such as an optional electrochrome rearview mirror (with automatic dimming) and radio controls on the steering wheel. Another safety feature added in 2004 is BeltAlert, Chrysler’s answer to Ford’s BeltMinder. The system gently reminds you when you haven’t fastened your seat belts.

Chrysler Sebring 2003 (2003), 9st generation

The 2003 exterior, which Chrysler describes as “refined,” has a distinctly European feel. The trunk lid has been redesigned around the rear, and inside it gets a new dashboard and an overall refresh that enhances the sense of sophistication. The Sebring coupe is available in the LX and LXi trims, priced from $20,185 and $22,385, respectively. The test car was an LXi with leather interior, 17-inch wheels, anti-lock brakes, traction control, side airbags, and AutoStick automatic transmission.

Chrysler Sebring 2002 (2002), 8st generation

In 2002, the Chrysler Sebring added cutouts to the rear of the front seats’ lower rollers. The rollers support your front thighs and keep you in the seat when cornering. The makers placed the CD changer under the audio/climate controls, moved a few inches to the front of the car and placed it behind the two front seat cupholders.

Chrysler Sebring 2001 (2001), 7st generation

For the 2001 model year the Sebring has received a bit of an update to prolong its lifespan, and a sedan with that nameplate has joined the vert and coupe. The convertible was given a light touch of the restyling brush, with a new hood and grille treatment and revised decklid on the outside, and new instrument panels and seats and new trim materials within. It’s not as if it needed much work in the styling department – it was, and remains, one of the handsomest machines in class, with a mature, understated elegance about it that makes the domestic competitors look positively pubescent.

Chrysler Sebring 2000 (2000), 6st generation

The 2000 Chrysler Sebring had the four-cylinder engine that used to be standard on the LX, but it was dropped. Both models now come with a 156-horsepower 2.5-liter V-6 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. The Sebring coupe has more style and more interior space than most two-door competitors, but the V-6 engine makes more noise than power.
