Approvals GM Dexos Motor Oil
GM Dexos 1
Designed with gasoline engines in mind GM Dexos 1 replaces the GM-LL-A-025, GM6094M and GM4718M specifications. This specification is usually recommended for GM vehicles built for the North American and Asian markets. Compared to ILSAC GF-5 it has stricter requirements regarding piston deposit formation, aeration, oxidation stability, wear, low-temperature pumpability and volatility.
GM Dexos 2
The GM Dexos 2 specification is meant to be the replacement for both GM-LL-A-025 (gasoline) and GM-LL-B-025 (diesel) specifications for the European market. Oils meeting GM Dexos 2 are required for vehicles manufactured from MY2011 onward but they are also backward compatible with older models. This specification is built on the ACEA C3 standard but also contains elements from the ILSAC GF-4 deposit formation test and low-temperature sludge build-up test.
Special GM approval for long-life engine oil for gasoline engines. Viscosity is SAE 0W-30. Product meets ACEA A3/B3. Drain interval can be as long as 30 000 kms. Recommended for vehicles built before MY2011.
Special GM approval for long-life engine oil for diesel engines. Viscosity is SAE 5W-40. Product meets ACEA A3/B3/B4. Drain interval can be as long as 50 000 kms. Recommended for vehicles built before MY2011.

Chevrolet Volt Generations
Chevrolet Volt 2019 (2019), 9 generation
Chevy also updated a few other minor things for the 2019 Volt, mostly aimed at improving efficiency. There’s a new Energy app that helps drivers adjust their driving style and accessory usage to maximize efficiency. It also has new low and regen on demand calibrations that are meant for smoother drivability.
Chevrolet Volt 2018 (2018), 8 generation
The 2018 Volt is the continuance of Chevrolet’s second-generation, extended-range electric vehicle. The four-door hatchback can run solely on electric power for shorter trips, while an onboard gas generator makes the Volt’s overall range similar to a regular gas-powered car. Competitors include the Ford C-Max Energi and Toyota Prius Prime, though neither offers the 53-mile electric-only range of the Volt. An LT Driver Confidence Package includes rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot warning.
Chevrolet Volt 2017 (2017), 7 generation
Nothing major has changed for 2017. Chevrolet has transformed the Volt from a quirky science experiment into an extremely impressive premium compact sedan, with far more refinement and usable technology than any of its competitors.
Chevrolet Volt 2016 (2016), 6 generation
The new Volt looks more like a modern Honda Civic or FCX Clarity fuel-cell car, from the low pointy front end to the much larger taillights and connecting side window trim, than its old one.
Chevrolet Volt 2015 (2015), 5 generation
For this model year, the OnStar communication system now features 4G LTE connectivity as well as a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot. A three-month/3-gigabyte data trial comes standard.
Chevrolet Volt 2014 (2014), 4 generation
Although the Chevrolet Volt received a significant price cut, it still retains its new electric car capabilities with increased range, as well as poor visibility, questionable touchscreens and a cramped interior.
Chevrolet Volt 2013 (2013), 3 generation
The Volt gets a slight increase in estimated EV driving range, up to 38 miles max per charge compared to last year’s 35. A new Hold drive mode now allows owners to conserve battery charge for use in the most efficient way. All models now get a body-colored roof and rear liftgate. A new Silver Topaz Metallic exterior color and Pebble Beige interior finishes are available. New interior options include heated cloth seats, a removable rear armrest and GPS navigation to accompany the MyLink information and entertainment system. The Volt also gets new advanced safety features like available lane departure warning and forward collision alert technology.
Chevrolet Volt 2012 (2012), 2 generation
For California buyers, Chevrolet has a new low-emissions version of the 2012 Volt that’s eligible for a $1,500 state rebate and single-occupant access to the state’s high-occupancy vehicle lanes. Newly available features include the Chevrolet MyLink entertainment system, a keyless-entry system and 17-inch aluminum wheels with black accents. Turn-by-Turn Navigation is now included with OnStar.
Chevrolet Volt 2011 (2011), 1 generation
The Chevrolet Volt is the most advanced hybrid ever created. It’s radical. It’s beautiful. The plug-in hybrid has a battery that’s 12 times the capacity of the Prius, and until now, no one has produced such a sophisticated and large lithium-ion battery in large volumes. Unlike a conventional hybrid, where the electric motor provides a little help to the gas engine, the Volt’s electric motor is the primary source of power. The gas motor is secondary and spins the electric motor when the battery dies (and at higher speeds, it can drive the wheels in tandem). It takes 10 hours to charge the Volt at 120 volts or about four hours at 240 volts (it requires a special home unit sold by Chevrolet). But when the all-electric range evaporates, the Volt becomes a rather disappointing hybrid. The problem isn’t the engine running at disproportionately higher revs than the car’s acceleration, nor is it the faint noise after driving in complete silence.
